  American Idiot could have been a mess; in fact, it is a mess. (...) Green Day have always swiped licks from the Clash, even back when they were still singing about high school shrinks and whores, so it makes sense for them to come on like Joe Strummer. The other Clash flashback is "Are We the Waiting," a grandiose ballad evoking Side Three of London Calling.

 Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic praised the album as either "a collection of great songs" or as a whole, writing that, "in its musical muscle and sweeping, politically charged narrative, it's something of a masterpiece".Pitchforx Media commended it as "ambitious" and successful in getting across its message, while "keep[ing] its mood and method deliberately, tenaciously, and angrily on point".NME characterized it as "an onslaught of varied and marvellously good tunes presented in an unexpectedly inventive way. ( Wikipedia )  Biographie : Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1987 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt. For much of their career the band has been a trio with drummer Tré Cool. In 2012 guitarist and backing vocalist Jason White became a full member after playing in the band as a session and touring guitarist for 13 years.^[1] Cool replaced former drummer John Kiffmeyer in 1990, prior to the recording of the band's second studio album, Kerplunk (1992). 

Mi opinion : 

• I really appreciate this song, for differents reasons : the first one, is since, I keen on the melody, the rhythm, it makes me happy and full of energy ! I saw the lyrics and it makes sens for me. The second one, is because, this song remember me good moments with my friends, and my childhood, therefore, I listen often this song ( sometimes with nostalgia ). 

• No, I don't know what really mean, but I think, it deals with the "Americain Dream" and the ideal view of the States, and I think, the character is decepointed about this country because he say " I walk alone" . That is contradictory with the "Americain Dream"
